How to keep your feet warm all winter long?

Share

February 2, 2018

Having cold feet is not pleasant …  Alexandre Brien, Podiatrist offers you advice that will positively affect you and your family so that you can fully take advantage of the joys of winter.

  • Choose appropriate footwear:    Make sure not to wear boots that are too tight.  To keep out the cold, soles must be thick and waterproof.

  • Select good socks: It is better to choose socks made of polyester, lurex or wool acrylic than cotton.  The latter absorbs moisture and perspiration, but is slow drying and may let your feet cold.  If your socks are wet, your feet will also get cold.  If you are wearing cotton socks, allow yourself time to change them regularly.

  • Don’t wear layers: Be aware that poor blood circulation may result in frostbite.  Compress your feet is likely to create a poor circulation.  You can also add insulating soles and insert them in your footwear.

  • Move: In order to activate your blood circulation, it is very important to move. Try small hops and/or stand on the soles of the feet  and make  movements in an up and down motion (on tiptoes).  It is better to move your body than just your toes !

  • Keep your head warm:  Why would you keep your head warm when your feet are cold ? Feeling the cold throughout your body warms up your vital organs and reduce the blood flow  toward the extremities.  By covering your head, you can maintain your body heat which can also help you to warm up your feet !!!
